"What a big boy", said the doctor as Oliver Russell Grogg was born into our family. Getting into this world proved to be a challenge filled with laughter, excitement, strength, love and will no doubt fill all our lives with many memories to come.
"My water broke" those are words I thought I'd never hear considering only something like 35 % of all women actually have their water break as a sign of labor. Right Then, an alarm went off in my brain. Game Time!! So, I called the on call doctor to hear him say that the hospital in Burnsville where we had been planning to have him was full. That we would have to go to a different hospital. A hospital almost more than an hour away. So our Journey began to United Methodist Hospital in St. Louis Park, Mn. The drive there was not to bad besides getting lost because of a detour for some road construction. Hitting the biggest raccoon I've ever seen and that guy on I-35 N in the fast lane next to a semi doing 65 in a 70. Now a days when you flash your lights at some one to have them get out of the way for an emergency they slow down and keep chatting on their cell phones. Anyways, the doc had told us we had plenty of time even though her water had broke. But i kept remembering Grandma Fischer saying her water broke with one of her kids and ten minutes later they were born. By this part of our drive I was still pretty wound up. The whole water breaking, doc telling us to go somewhere else, and the raccoon killing really had me on edge. That's when Sara miss always calm and cool turns to me and says.. "Do you want me to drive?" We both chuckled and continued on our way. We did Find the hospital pretty easily. When we got to the hospital we were lost. This isn't the place we had a tour. Where do we park? What floor is the delivery on? Who will the doctor be? So I would have to say we started out a little nervous but by the time we met our nurse and started going into labor we were at ease with the whole deal. Maybe the epidural helped Sara. Which in turn seeing her a little more relaxed helped me stay a little more calm. So at 2:02 in the afternoon after 8 1/2 hrs of contractions and 8 hrs of labor. Little dude was born.
We got to leave the hospital on Monday, spending our first night at home. Felt great!! He eats, he poops he peas he eats he poops and then sleeps some more. Mom and I are glad that hes eating so well. We just our excited for the day he sleeps for more than an hour at a time. So here begins the adventure..............
